Power Shortfall Surpasses 4,000 MW Across Pakistan, Severe Load Shedding Feared

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s electricity shortfall has surpassed 4,000 megawatts as several power plants have gone offline and hydropower generation has declined, according to National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) sources.

Sources said the country is currently facing an electricity shortfall of more than 4,000 MW, resulting in three to four hours of load shedding in urban and rural areas.

Several power plants have been removed from the national grid, while a decline in hydel generation has further aggravated the power crisis.

Meanwhile, the electricity shortfall in the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) region has exceeded 1,500 MW.

According to LESCO sources, the increase in the shortfall is primarily due to reduced availability of diesel, gas and hydropower generation. Forced load shedding is being carried out for one hour after every hour in several areas of the LESCO region.

Sources have warned that consumers may face severe power outages for the next several days as the electricity supply-demand gap remains high.
