Pakistan and India Could Face Each Other Three Times in 2027 ODI World Cup

Lahore: The new format of the 2027 ODI World Cup has opened the possibility of arch-rivals Pakistan and India facing each other as many as three times in the same tournament.

Both teams have been placed in Group A alongside defending champions Australia, Afghanistan, co-hosts Zimbabwe and one qualifier.

Pakistan and India are scheduled to meet in the group stage on October 10 at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.

Under the new format, the top three teams from each group, along with the better-performing fourth-placed team across the two groups, will qualify for the Super 7 stage.

If both Pakistan and India advance to the next stage, they could meet again on November 7 in Cape Town.

A third Pakistan-India encounter could also take place if both teams progress to the semi-final or final.

Meanwhile, the two traditional rivals could also meet more than once in the upcoming Asia Cup, potentially leading to several Pakistan-India clashes within a span of a few months.

For now, Pakistan and India are scheduled to face each other on October 3 at 9:30 a.m. in the gold medal match of the Asian Games in Japan.
