Daily Tomato Consumption May Help Protect Against Fatty Liver, Study Finds

LAHORE:A recent study by medical scientists and nutrition experts has suggested that consuming tomatoes regularly may help protect the liver against serious conditions, particularly fatty liver disease.
The research, prepared in collaboration with Italy’s Ministry of Health and published in the medical journal *Nutrients*, examined the potential benefits of regular tomato consumption for liver health.
According to the findings, people who consumed tomatoes on a daily basis showed a notable reduction in fat accumulation in the liver.
Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that may help protect liver cells and reduce the accumulation of excess fat in the liver.
The study also found that regular tomato consumption may help reduce liver inflammation and support healthier metabolic function.
Researchers and nutrition experts said incorporating tomatoes into everyday meals or salads could be a simple dietary measure for supporting liver health.
However, experts noted that dietary changes should not be considered a substitute for medical diagnosis or treatment for people who already have fatty liver disease or other liver conditions.
