Why Does Marriage Feel Scary After 40? Shruti Haasan Opens Up

Mumbai: Indian actress Shruti Haasan has opened up about her views on marriage after turning 40, saying she fears losing her independence after entering into marriage.

Speaking on a podcast hosted on Soha Ali Khan’s YouTube channel, Shruti discussed her hesitation about legally tying her identity to marriage.

The actress said she is traditional in some aspects and conservative in others, but stressed that these views are based on her own thinking rather than pressure from anyone else.

According to Shruti, the paperwork, heavy expenses and emphasis on showmanship associated with weddings make her uncomfortable. She said she would prefer for her and her partner to choose each other every day out of their own free will rather than because of a legal document.

Shruti revealed that she had come close to getting married in the past and did not find the idea of marriage as frightening at the time. However, she said the heavy expenses associated with weddings still concern her.

Joking about the cost of weddings, the actress said that instead of spending such a large amount on a ceremony, the money could be donated to charity.

Shruti Haasan was previously in a relationship with artist Santanu Hazarika. The couple ended their four-year relationship in 2024 due to personal differences.
