Three Key Figures Offered to Facilitate Meeting with Imran Khan, Ayaz Sadiq Reveals

Islamabad: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has revealed that the PTI leadership was offered opportunities on multiple occasions to meet the party’s founder, Imran Khan, but the proposals did not materialize amid concerns over criticism and backlash on social media.
Speaking on a Hum News podcast, Ayaz Sadiq said he had been trying to play the role of a bridge between the government and opposition. He said opposition lawmakers frequently expressed a desire to improve the political situation and arrange meetings with Imran Khan.
The speaker said that on one occasion, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi contacted him and offered to facilitate a meeting with Imran Khan. However, when arrangements were being made to send Imran Khan’s nephew, his sister reportedly stopped him from going.
Ayaz Sadiq said that on another occasion, he, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Barrister Gohar were present on a conference call, while Asad Qaiser and other PTI leaders were also with Barrister Gohar.

According to the speaker, the PTI leadership was offered the option of sending Barrister Gohar or other senior leaders to meet Imran Khan. However, the proposal was not accepted due to fears of criticism and trolling on social media.
He said that subsequently, a proposal was made to send the opposition leaders in the National Assembly and Senate to meet Imran Khan. However, they also declined, saying that they feared facing an intense campaign of criticism on social media.
Ayaz Sadiq said Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Barrister Gohar had also confirmed these developments.
The National Assembly speaker said he did not hold Barrister Gohar responsible for the situation, adding that Gohar continued to make efforts to improve circumstances but had limited room to act.
He said PTI members were hesitant to take important decisions because of the fear of social media trolling.
