Security Forces Foil Fitna al-Khawarij Infiltration Attempt in Kurram Sector

PESHAWAR:Pakistan’s security forces have foiled an attempted infiltration by militants into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram sector from Afghanistan, according to security sources.

The sources said the infiltration attempt was made from Afghan Taliban positions in Nangarhar and Paktia provinces. The militants were identified by Pakistani authorities as members of Fitna al-Khawarij, a term used by the state for the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Following the failed infiltration attempt, Afghan Taliban forces allegedly opened fire on Pakistani border posts in the Kurram sector using heavy weapons, mortars and other arms, according to the security sources.

Pakistani security forces responded with small and heavy weapons, including artillery, targeting several Afghan Taliban border posts, mortar positions and defensive positions, the sources said.

The sources claimed that the retaliatory action silenced the firing positions and forced several Afghan Taliban personnel to abandon their posts and flee.

Pakistani forces, according to the sources, maintained control of the border areas and continued monitoring the situation. They remained on high alert and prepared to respond to any further infiltration attempt or cross-border provocation.
