No Compromise on Protecting National Security and Sovereignty: Saudi Cabinet
Riyadh (Qudrat Daily) — An important high-level meeting of the Saudi Cabinet was held under the chairmanship of Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in which national security, regional tensions, and international diplomatic relations were reviewed in detail. According to media reports, during the meeting, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman briefed the Cabinet in detail about his recent important telephone conversation with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and matters of mutual interest. He also placed before the Cabinet the progress of his meeting with the head of the US Central Command, General Brad Cooper, along with other points.
It was reported that the Saudi Cabinet strongly condemned in the harshest terms the continued actions of Yemen’s Houthi rebels in targeting Saudi civilian installations, air bases, and ordinary citizens. During the meeting, the Cabinet made clear that under the United Nations Charter and the established principles of international law, Saudi Arabia has the full and legitimate right of defense to protect its borders, citizens, and assets.
In addition, the spokesman of the Saudi-led military coalition fighting in Yemen, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, issued an extremely strong statement on the Houthi attacks, in which Major General Turki Al-Maliki said that the targeting of civilians and essential properties by the Houthis exposes their extremist mindset and their deliberate policy of increasing tension in the region. The coalition forces will give the strongest possible response to these attacks with full responsibility and complete determination, and all necessary operational, strategic, and defensive measures will be taken immediately to deal with the threat of the Houthi militia.
It was reported that this emergency development came at a time when on Monday, Houthi forces claimed to have carried out attacks with ballistic missiles and explosives-laden drones on Saudi Arabia’s most important King Khalid Air Base. According to initial statements by the Saudi military coalition, at least 13 civilians were injured and installations were partially damaged as a result of these multiple Houthi ballistic missile and drone attacks, after which military and defense tensions escalated across the region.
