Journalist Bilal Ghori’s Physical Remand Extended by Two Days

ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court has extended the physical remand of journalist and vlogger Bilal Ghori by two days.

Bilal Ghori was produced before the court after completing his three-day physical remand. Judicial Magistrate Malik Aman heard the case.

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) requested a further six-day physical remand of the journalist.

Ghori’s lawyer, Imran Shafiq, opposed the request, arguing that the recovery had already been completed. He questioned the need for further remand, saying that the authorities had already taken possession of Ghori’s mobile phone and laptop and also had access to his social media accounts.

The lawyer further argued that the prosecution should first establish how the statement attributed to Ghori was false. He told the judge that the accused had not even been questioned about how the statement was allegedly incorrect.

During the hearing, Ghori said that all his accounts, as well as his mobile phone and laptop, were already in the authorities’ possession.

The investigating officer told the court that two-factor verification was enabled on Ghori’s accounts, creating difficulties in logging in.

Reacting to the explanation, Ghori remarked, “This is all that remains now—they should pull my tongue out of my mouth.”

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court reserved its decision on the request for further physical remand. The court later announced its reserved decision and extended Ghori’s physical remand by two days.

The court ordered that Bilal Ghori be produced again on September 12.
