Balochistan Assembly Moves Resolution Against Alleged Mistreatment of Pashtun Traders in Karachi
QUETTA: Member of the Balochistan Assembly Asghar Tareen has moved a resolution against the alleged mistreatment of Pashtun traders in Karachi, strongly condemning alleged violence by Sindh Police against hotel owners and staff.
Speaking in the provincial assembly, Asghar Tareen said the alleged incidents of violence had forced members of the Pashtun business community to close their businesses. He termed such actions a violation of the rule of law and demanded a comprehensive investigation into the incidents and departmental action against police personnel found responsible.
The resolution called for complete protection of Pashtun traders and their businesses in Sindh and urged the Balochistan government to raise the matter with the Sindh government.
Asghar Tareen alleged that Sindh Police conducted raids on warehouses belonging to Pashtun businessmen under the cover of darkness and subjected Pashtun traders to treatment similar to that allegedly given to terrorists.
He proposed the formation of a committee to engage with the Sindh government on the issue. He questioned whether Pashtuns should be forced to leave for the mountains when there were already very limited business opportunities in Balochistan, stressing that Pashtun traders should be provided security in Karachi.
Speaking during the session, Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman expressed full support for Asghar Tareen’s resolution.
He said the people of Balochistan were hardworking and alleged that during visits to Karachi, Karachi Police had repeatedly harassed them for extortion.
Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman strongly criticized Sindh Police, alleging that it was treating the people of Balochistan unfairly. He questioned whether the people of Balochistan were not Pakistani citizens and why they were allegedly being harassed by Sindh Police in Karachi.
He called on the Sindh chief minister to formally announce that people from Balochistan should not visit Sindh. He also urged the people of Balochistan to avoid travelling to Sindh, saying that many residents travelled to Karachi for medical treatment but were allegedly subjected to harassment by Sindh Police.
