Heavy Rain Triggers High Alert in Rawalpindi and Islamabad
RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD: Authorities in Rawalpindi and Islamabad have placed all relevant departments on high alert following heavy rainfall in the twin cities.
According to rainfall data, Saidpur received 43mm of rain, PMD 43mm, New Katarian 12mm, Golra 5mm, Pirwadhai 4mm and Shamsabad 2mm.
Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner directed all departments to remain on high alert, saying that a rain emergency has been declared in the city.
According to WASA officials, the water flow in Nullah Lai is being closely monitored. The water level was recorded at five feet at Katarian and three feet at Gawalmandi. Staff equipped with heavy machinery have been deployed in low-lying areas to deal with any emergency situation.
The latest spell comes after Rawalpindi received 230mm of rain on Tuesday, turning streets and roads into streams, submerging vehicles and causing rainwater to enter homes in low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, two people lost their lives in separate incidents—one due to electrocution at a house in Rawalpindi and another after a roof collapsed in Islamabad.
