Iqrar-ul-Hassan Criticizes Leaders Who Failed to Bring Democracy to Their Own Parties
ISLAMABAD: Awam Raj Tehreek chief Iqrar-ul-Hassan has criticized political leaders who claim to be fighting for democracy in the country despite allegedly failing to introduce democracy within their own parties for decades.
In a post on X, Iqrar-ul-Hassan said, “Watch the spectacle! Those who could not bring democracy to their parties for 30 or 40 years also claim that they are fighting for democracy in the country.”
He added that only a person who does not hold a party position or seek any position for themselves can genuinely introduce democracy and merit within a political party.
Meanwhile, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the only solution to Pakistan’s political, economic, constitutional and administrative crises lies in the supremacy of the Constitution, genuine democracy, parliamentary supremacy, provincial autonomy and practical solutions to public problems.
Addressing a joint meeting of the JUI Sindh Provincial Executive Council and organizing committees for the Peace World Gathering 2027 at Jamia Islamia on Dodai Road in Larkana, Fazlur Rehman said sustainable political stability could not be achieved unless state and government affairs were conducted within constitutional limits.
He said political differences and national issues should be resolved through serious dialogue and consultation among all stakeholders rather than through the use of force.
Speaking to the media in Larkana later, Fazlur Rehman said the issue of creating new provinces and dividing existing provinces had surfaced in the past, and new provinces had been established in various countries around the world.
However, he said Pakistan currently lacked both the appropriate environment and the necessary preparations for such a move. Decisions taken without a conducive environment and proper planning could lead to disastrous consequences, he warned.
Fazlur Rehman stressed that it was essential to ensure implementation of the powers and resources granted to the provinces under the 18th Constitutional Amendment.
