PIMS Fire Safety Audit Reports Revealed Multiple Safety Deficiencies

Islamabad:A fire safety audit report of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has revealed several deficiencies in the hospital’s fire safety arrangements.

According to the report, the Fire Safety Wing sent its findings to the hospital administration on February 15, 2018, identifying shortcomings related to fire safety and directing authorities to take immediate corrective measures.

A “Hazard Alert” was subsequently issued for PIMS on June 8, 2023. The alert identified several additional deficiencies, including blocked emergency exits and exposed electrical wiring.

The findings raise questions about whether the safety shortcomings identified in previous inspections were adequately addressed before the recent fire tragedy at the hospital.

Authorities are expected to examine the previous audit reports as part of the investigation into the incident and determine whether the recommended corrective measures were implemented.
