Initial Inquiry Report on PIMS Tragedy Submitted to PM Shehbaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD:The initial inquiry report into the PIMS tragedy has been submitted to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, according to sources.

Sources said the inquiry committee, headed by former interior secretary Shahid Khan, submitted the report to the Prime Minister’s Office late at night through the office of the prime minister’s adviser, Tauqir Shah.

Tauqir Shah subsequently forwarded the report to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and briefed him on its contents and recommendations, sources said.

Sources within the inquiry committee confirmed that the report had been sent to the Prime Minister’s Office. The authority to make the report public has been left with the prime minister.

According to sources, the report carries the signatures of all members of the inquiry committee. The committee has identified the causes of the PIMS tragedy and determined responsibility for the incident.

The report also details difficulties faced by rescue teams during relief operations. It recommends action against relevant PIMS staff members who were absent during the incident and contains recommendations aimed at preventing similar tragedies in the future.

Interviews with PIMS administration officials and doctors have also been incorporated into the report, while statements from fire brigade and rescue teams are included as well.

Sources said the report also highlights shortcomings in treatment facilities and inadequate resources at PIMS, observing that the hospital’s facilities do not meet international standards.

The inquiry committee has reportedly made an immediate recommendation to the prime minister for action against those held responsible for the tragedy.

The report is now awaiting the prime minister’s decision regarding further action and whether its findings will be made public.
