Prolonged Silence on Imran Khan’s Personal X Account Raises Hopes of Positive Development Between PTI and Establishment

ISLAMABAD: The prolonged silence on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s personal X account for more than five months is being viewed within the party as a potentially positive development that could help ease political tensions with the establishment.

No new message directly attributed to Imran Khan has been posted on his personal X account, @ImranKhanPTI, for more than five months. The last such message was posted on March 21, 2026, when his sons shared a statement on his behalf after speaking to him over the phone.

According to a report by journalist Ansar Abbasi, the extended silence is significant because Imran Khan’s social media account had previously been used extensively to issue strongly worded messages, particularly criticism of the military and its senior leadership.

During the period of political confrontation, messages attributed to Khan regularly appeared on his account and were widely circulated through PTI’s official social media network.

Sources within PTI who have been seeking to reduce the differences between Imran Khan and the establishment had expressed concern over such messages, particularly those containing strong criticism of the military leadership.

The situation became particularly tense in December 2025 when the military publicly accused Imran Khan of using visitors to his prison cell and social media to launch attacks against the armed forces and create divisions.

According to PTI sources, a reduction in highly aggressive messaging, especially criticism of the military and its top leadership, could create space for political matters to return to normal.

However, the sources clarified that the silence on Imran Khan’s X account should not be taken as evidence of any political deal or understanding between Imran Khan and the establishment.

They said a calmer communication environment could merely provide room for a return to normal political activity, provided the trend continues.

Imran Khan’s sisters, particularly Aleema Khan, have also continued to convey his views to the public after meeting him, a practice that has previously drawn objections from the government and military establishment.
