Field Marshal Asim Munir’s Iran Visit Was Not on Behalf of Trump or US: FO Spokesperson

ISLAMABAD:Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi has clarified that Field Marshal Asim Munir’s recent visit to Iran was not undertaken on behalf of US President Donald Trump or as a representative of the United States.

Speaking at the weekly briefing in Islamabad, Andrabi said the visit took place in the context of Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce regional tensions and find a negotiated solution to the crisis.

He said Field Marshal Asim Munir held discussions with Iranian officials on ways to de-escalate tensions in the region and pursue a diplomatic resolution to ongoing issues.

The spokesperson said Pakistan remained engaged with brotherly countries as part of its efforts to reduce tensions in the region and help resolve the Middle East crisis.

He added that Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts were aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region and facilitating the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian leadership, he said, had appreciated Pakistan’s role in these efforts.

Meanwhile, Andrabi said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek, where he would also hold bilateral meetings.

He said Pakistan had assumed the SCO chairmanship for one year and would host the SCO summit in Islamabad in 2027.
