KARACHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition against the appointment of the acting director of Karachi University’s Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre (SZIC).
The petition was filed in the apex court against the appointment of associate professor Abida Parveen as acting director of SZIC allegedly in violation of the rules and regulations.
After hearing arguments from both sides, a two-judge bench of the apex court headed by Justice Faisal Arab dismissed the petition and said that it did not hold merit.
Earlier, the KU lawyer argued that Prof Parveen was appointed as acting director for an interim period and the advertisement has been posted to hire the new director of SZIC.
Petitioner Javed Alam through his lawyer moved the apex court and contended that assistant professor Abida Parveen was appointed as acting director of SZIC allegedly in violation of the rules and regulations. He argued that formation of the selection board was also not made in accordance with the rules and pleaded to declare the appointment of Ms Parveen as illegal and restrain her from exercising her authority as acting director of SZIC.
